Who Is Jesus?
Jesus continues to be the most controversial figure in history. He is a revolutionary; yet, He showed nothing but peace and love during His life on earth. He is worshipped by the world’s most powerful leaders; however, He spent most of His time on earth with the poor and those who could not defend themselves. Authors have written volumes about His life, but He lived most of His life as a simple carpenter in Galilee.
According to the Apostle John, Jesus was simply the Word. “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” (John 1:14 The Message)
Jesus lived approximately thirty years of His life as an unassuming carpenter; however, the last three years of His life changed the direction of humanity for eternity. Jesus was perfect. Because of His perfection, Jesus was the only acceptable sacrifice that could be offered for our sins. “Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God. It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in. He paid with Christ's sacred blood, you know. He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. And this was no afterthought. Even though it has only lately—at the end of the ages—become public knowledge, God always knew he was going to do this for you. It's because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God.” ( I Peter 1:17-19 The Message)
Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross for the redemption of our sins. But three days later He arose from the dead, and He is now seated with God awaiting the order to return and gather together those who have entrusted their lives to Him. The Bible says that the reason Jesus came to earth was love. "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.” (John 3:16 The Message)
A person can give their life to Jesus by asking Him to be their Master. “Say the welcoming word to God—‘Jesus is my Master’—embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not ‘doing’ anything; you're simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That's salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: ‘God has set everything right between him and me!’” (Romans 10:9, 10 The Message)
